Volunteer Staff, Executive Advisory Board and Board of Directors

CSIC is in search of talented volunteers who would like to join us in supporting professional composers and putting on progressive music education programs throughout the United States.

Open Executive Advisory Board Positions: 

Our Executive Advisory Board advises the senior management team on a variety of high-level topics. We’re looking for individuals with expertise in the following areas to provide guidance and recommendations in the management of CSIC programs:

Executive Advisory Board, Chief Technology Officer

Location: Online/telecommuting.
# of hours: 2 hours per week
Appointment period: 1 year. Could be extended.

Open Board of Director Positions:

Board of Directors 

We have three open board member positions on our governing board. We are in search of  three talented individuals with expertise in the following areas:

  • Board Member who has extensive experience working in the music-creating industry and cares about music education
  • Board member to provide guidance and leadership in the arena of  development and fundraising
  • Board Member who has extensive experience working with high school music students in a national capacity 

Location: Meeting headquarters are in the San Francisco Bay Area. 7 meetings per year: 2 are online and 5 are in person
# of hours: 2 hours per week
Appointment period: 1 year. Could be extended.

Open Internship or Volunteer Staff Position:

We’re building our Marketing and Communications department: It’s an exciting time to get involved with Composers and Schools in Concert.

Webmaster/Web Designer:  2 hours per week

Title: Webmaster
Location: Online/telecommuting.
# of hours: 2 hours per week
Salary range: Volunteer or Internship
Appointment period: 1 year. Could be extended.
Benefits: None
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: None

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently at home
  • Meet online as needed
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director on website design and implement team decisions
  • Maintain the website:
    • Make design recommendations and implement them
    • Update events
    • Add new members
    • Add Score Library entries
    • Update pages as needed
    • Maintain SEO optimization
    • Perform updates

Qualifications:

  • BA Marketing or applicable degree
  • 2 years experience in Web Development
  • 1 year experience using WordPress
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, ability to take initiative
  • Excellent web skills with a portfolio
  • Strong online communicator
  • Experience with responsive design
  • Technical skills: Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress,
    • Strong knowledge HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Communications Manager:  2 hours per week

Title: Communications Manager
Location: Online/telecommuting.
# of hours: 2 hours per week
Salary range: Volunteer or Internship
Appointment period: 1 year. Could be extended.

Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Supervises: None

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently at home
  • Meet once a month online with the marketing team
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Director of Marketing and Communications to assist in the development of creative content for marketing material, create and distribute press releases and media alerts, develop and distribute monthly e-communications and newsletters, and assist with marketing and communication’s special projects

Qualifications:

  • BA Marketing\Communications or applicable degree
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to take initiative
  • A portfolio of your work
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical skills: Google Docs, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Preferred technical skills: Constant Contact, Photo editing, HTML
  • Preferred qualifications: experience with newsletter creation and distribution

Social Media Manager:  2 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently at home
  • Meet once a month online with the marketing team
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Director of Marketing and Communications to create engaging content for all social media channels

Qualifications:

The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing, managing and executing social marketing programs. The ideal candidate is an avid user of social media and has previous experience turning fans into brand ambassadors. This person is responsible for crafting CSIC’s social media strategy to acquire and engage fans and followers and create an editorial calendar to bring it to life. S/he will grow and manage CSIC’s online presence on various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and others. S/he will create engaging content that’s tailored to the strengths of each social channel and work with our marketing team to develop and maintain a consistent brand voice for social media. This individual has their finger on the pulse of social media trends and effortlessly joins in the conversation and is able to build meaningful relationships with a variety of communities.  S/he has an inherent interest in music and music education and takes great pride in their work.
