Our Commission Program
Our Commissions in Concert program provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in the creation of a new piece of music with a professional composer. Educators select a composer to write a piece for their student ensemble. The composer gets to know the students and then spends class time creating and rehearsing with the ensemble in addition to teaching the students about the composition process. The students perform the world premiere where all ticket-sale revenue goes back to the youth music program.
– Facilitation between composer and school
– A well-planned and proven commission curriculum for young performers
– Commission funding for the composer
– A professional audio or video recording of the performance
– Composer contract
– School invoicing
– Promotion of the score in the CSIC Score Library
– Promotion of the premiere performance through the creation of a press release, social media promotion and media pitches
A Commission Consortium: A consortium commission consists of a minimum of six schools. Each school receives one get-to-know the composer session, two video rehearsals with the composer, a custom web page offering helpful rehearsal and performance resources, and score and parts. The composer receives the freedom of creating a new piece in an educational setting, promotion, a video or audio recording of the piece and contract and fiscal management. In a 6-school commission there are approximately 9 hours of online appearance commitments over the course of four months. A consortium could be larger than six schools — talk with CSIC for details. A consortium commission begins at $2,550 for a 3-minute piece.
Commission With One Ensemble Only: A school ensemble receives one get-to-know the composer session, three in-person rehearsals with the composer plus an in-person appearance at the concert, a custom web page offering helpful rehearsal and performance resources and score and parts. The composer receives the freedom of creating a new piece in an educational setting, promotion, a video or audio recording of the piece and contract and fiscal management. There are approximately 5 hours of appearance commitments over the course of four months. A single ensemble commission begins at $1,600 for a 3-minute piece.
